Drop-in to be more cancer aware

Kingston residents are being invited to become more cancer aware at a drop-in event taking place mid – November. Organised by Kingston Clinical Commissioning Group and Kingston council, the awareness drop-in event is taking place on Thursday November 16th 2017, between 5pm and 7:30pm at the YMCA in Surbiton.  The event is free and open to all.

There will be the chance to talk to representatives from Cancer Research UK, St George’s hospital screening team, public health, the voluntary sector and smoking cessation. You’ll even have the chance for  a free blood pressure and cholesterol check.

The event has been set up following the publication of a new cancer strategy for Kingston, which highlights prevention as much as treatment. Lead GP for cancer Dr Atin Goel is encouraging everyone in the borough to come along;

“Cancer has been a taboo area in the past, but that is thankfully changing. We want people to come along any time during the drop-in session to talk to us about cancer prevention – about living healthier lives and about taking up the screening opportunities we have here in Kingston.

Talking about the prevention of and treatment of cancer is good for us all. Sharing knowledge and experiences brings about far greater learning – something for which we, the local health community, are striving”.

If you want to attend the drop-in session, simply book on via Eventbrite- https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/kingston-cancer-awareness-day-tickets-38949953359 or call us to book on - 020 8339 8107.
