Stopping smoking

Vanessa quite smoking after 30 years

After thirty years of smoking Vanessa from Surbiton quit with the help of our stop smoking course.

Support with stopping smoking

Smoking has many adverse side affects, and can damage your pocket as well as your health.

Use this page to find out what support is available to help you quit. You can also follow the right hand links to try quitting online using the stop smoking website, or download the stop smoking widget to your desktop.

How can I stop smoking?

The more thought you put into stopping smoking the more likely you are to succeed.

In Kingston we also offer practical support to make stopping that bit easier.

This includes 'Kick It’, a new service commissioned by the NHS in Kingston and Richmond offering free stop smoking clinics with trained advisors in convenient locations throughout the borough.

The service provides smokers with the opportunity to speak confidentially to trained advisors and learn specialist techniques to deal with nicotine cravings. They can also obtain over £100 worth of free nicotine medication (prescription charges may apply) or other medication.

The service is also hitting the streets, with outreach teams out and about across the borough talking to smokers and promoting the new service.

The introduction of the ‘Kick It’ services follows a hugely successful programme in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, where the ‘Kick It’ team has helped over 2,000 smokers successfully stop smoking in the last year alone.

Kick It is offered as either one-to-one advice or group based sessions with locations across the borough.

Amongst the first stop smoking sessions taking place are programmes at the following locations:

-       Oakhill Health Centre in Surbiton: Monday 7th January 2013 from 6-7pm (Oakhill Road KT6 6EN)

-       Hawks Rd Clinic in Kingston: Wednesday 9th January 2013 from 7-8pm (Hawks Road KT1 3EW)

-       The Information & Advice Centre: every Wednesday from 10.30 – 12.30noon (Guildhall 2 Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames KT1 1EU)

For more information about the Kick It stop smoking service, please see Alternatively, to find details of your nearest stop smoking clinic and to book an appointment please phone 0208 741 8314.
